Parties General

Can I bring my own decorations for the party room?

Yes, you are welcome to bring your own decorations for the party room. Please coordinate with our Adventure staff to ensure they align with our venue policies. We do not allow decorations that involve excessive mess, e.g. pinatas, silly string, party poppers.

Does an adult have to participate?

No, however, an adult must stay onsite for the duration of the party. Why not enjoy a quiet drink at The Lookout while you wait?

What is the cancellation policy for a party?

Cancellations made at least 30 days before the event date will receive a full refund. If you wish to amend your food order, please do so at least 10 days before the party.

What days and times can I book a party for?

Weekend bookings are available online. If you'd like to arrange something outside of these hours, like school holidays, please give us a call on 01372 467132, option 2.

Are the party rooms heated/air conditioned?

Yes, the private rooms are air conditioned/heated as needed.

What do the children need to wear?

Ensure all participants are wearing suitable clothing: trousers, long-sleeved tops and trainers. Flip-flops/sandals and Crocs are not allowed. Gloves are essential for Ringos, Sledging and Mini Ringos and recommended for High Ropes Adventure. A limited number are available to purchase from reception. This remains the same in hot weather and we do not have spare tops or trousers onsite.

My child has a food allergy. Do you cater for allergens and intolerances?

Yes, we have gluten-free options available and can discuss any other allergens and provide alternatives. Please contact us as soon as possible to notify us.

Can I leave the children at the party and collect them when it's finished?

No, an adult must remain onsite at all times. Our fully serviced bar and restaurant, The Lookout, is the ideal place to relax while the children complete their activity.

Can I bring my own food?

We do not allow people to bring their own party food.

Do I need to bring cutlery, plates, etc?

Everything is provided for you. If you order the pizza party menu, the pizzas are served in individual takeaway boxes. The sandwich celebration is served on buffet trays. Napkins are provided, but if you wish to bring your own party plates and cutlery, you are welcome to. 

What time should I arrive for my party?

We recommend arriving 15 minutes before the start of you party.

How long do I have in the private room or stretch tent?

You have 45 minutes of party time in the private room or stretch tent.

What is the maximum and minimum group size for a party?

For our standard party packages, our minimum number of guests is 8 and our maximum 20.

Do you provide drinks?

Unlimited water and squash is provided. You can purchase additional drinks (sports drinks and sodas) if you wish from the Adventure Hut.

Can I change my food order?

Yes, food orders can be amended up until 10 days before your party.

What safety measures do you have in place?

All activities are supervised by experienced staff, with safety briefings and equipment checks.

What food options do you offer?

Parties include either an 8" pizza or sandwich and a sweet-treat grazing box for each child. Unlimited water and squash is provided.

Can we leave presents with you?

The Oakwood accepts no responsibility for anything left unattended onsite. There are lockers which are free of charge, or we recommend popping presents straight into the car!

Is the stretch tent sheltered?

Yes, the stretch tent is sheltered from the sun and rain.

Can I increase the number of children attending my party?

Yes, you can add more children to your party booking. Please get in touch with the Adventure team at adventure@the oakwood.com if you would like to increase the number booked. The maximum group size is 20, so please note we can not accept groups of more than this.

Can I bring my own cake?

Yes, you can bring your own cake.

Laser Tag Parties

What should my child wear for a Laser Tag party?

Participants should wear old clothing they don’t mind getting dirty and suitable shoes.

What does a Laser Tag party package include?

Our Laser Tag party package includes the use of laser tag equipment and a choice of either a party room or outdoor seating for your chosen catering options. Additionally, we offer a fully licensed bar for adults.

What is Hypershock and how old must I be to use it during my Laser Tag party?

The Hypershock system delivers an 82mj electric shock when shot. You must be 15 years or older to participate.

How long does a Laser Tag party last?

The Laser Tag party lasts for 2 hours & 15 minutes, which includes a 20-minute briefing, 70 minutes of gameplay and 45 minutes for food.

What is the minimum age requirement for a Laser Tag party?

Laser Tag parties are designed for children ages 6 and above. Hypershock is only available for participants 15 years and older.

High Ropes Parties

What should my child wear for a High Ropes party?

Please wear comfortable outdoor clothing. It is best to wear trainers or closed-toe shoes. Flip-flops/sandals and Crocs are not allowed. Gloves are optional but recommended, and a limited number are available to purchase from reception. Please ensure clothes and jackets are closely fitted and shoulders are covered in order for harnesses to be safely and comfortably situated. Large bulky clothing, such as puffa jackets, are not permitted. Please be aware that our high ropes operate above the ski slopes and skiers can view participants from underneath them, therefore, close-fitting shorts or trousers are advised.

How long does a High Ropes party last?

We estimate that a High Ropes party lasts between 1 hour & 45 minutes and 2 hours with 1 hour to 1 hour & 15 minutes allocated for the activity and 45 minutes for food.

What is the minimum age requirement for a High Ropes party?

The minimum age requirement for High Ropes Adventure is 8 years old.

What are the height and weight requirements for a High Ropes party?

Participants must be at least 1.3 metres tall and weigh no more than 120 kg.

What does a High Ropes party package include?

Our High Ropes party package includes single entry to both courses and a choice of either a party room or outdoor seating for your chosen catering options. Additionally, we offer a fully licensed bar for adults.

Ringo Parties

What should my child wear to a Ringo party?

Participants should wear long sleeves, full-length trousers and gloves to ensure their safety and comfort during the activities.

What does the Ringo party package include?

Our Ringo party package includes private hire on the main slope and a choice of either a party room or outdoor seating for your chosen catering options. Additionally, we offer a fully licensed bar for adults.

What is the minimum age requirement for a Ringo party?

Ringo parties are designed for children aged 8–14 years old.

How long does a Ringo party last?

The party lasts for 1 hour and 45 minutes with 1 hour for the activities and 45 minutes for food.

Mini Ringo Parties

What should my child wear for a Sledging and Mini Ringo party?

Participants should wear long sleeves, full-length trousers and gloves to ensure their safety and comfort during the activities.

What does a Mini Ringo and Sledging party package include?

Our Sledging and Mini Ringo party package includes access to the slope for Ringo riding and sledging and a choice of either a party room or outdoor seating for your chosen catering option. Additionally, we offer a fully licensed bar for adults.

How long does a Sledging and Mini Ringo party last?

The party lasts for 1 hour 45 minutes with 30 minutes dedicated to Sledging and 30 minutes for Mini Ringos along with 45 minutes for food.

What is the minimum age requirement for a Sledging and Mini Ringo party?

Sledging and Mini Ringo parties are designed for children aged 6–11 years old.

Tailored Parties

What age groups can participate in tailored parties?

Activities cater to various age groups with specific options for children and adults.

Are there food options available for tailored parties?

Yes, custom menus are available, including kid-friendly foods and adult options with alcoholic beverages.

What is the maximum group size for a tailored party?

Each activity has a maximum group size of 20. If you want to have more people, it's possible to do multiple activities simultaneously. Therefore, if doing 3 activities, the maximum number of participants could increase to 60.

What clothing should participants wear for a tailored party?

Participants should wear long sleeves, full-length trousers and gloves for activities like laser tag and Ringos.

What types of activities are available for tailored parties?

Activities include Laser tag, high ropes courses, Ringos and more.

High Ropes

How long does High Ropes Adventure last?

We estimate that a High Ropes Adventure lasts between 1 hour and 1 hour 15 minutes.

What is the safety system?

We use a safe roller system (Rope Roller). Our instructors help you into a full body harness and provide you with a safer roller system that attaches you and your harness to the safety wire. This cannot be detached until the end of the course. There is no need to clip in or out, as the roller simply follows you on the wire around the course.

Do I need to book in advance?

Prebooking is essential. You can book via our website or give us a call.

What safety measures do you have in place for High Ropes Adventure?

All activities are supervised by experienced staff, with safety briefings and equipment checks.

Can I leave my children at High Ropes Adventure and collect them when they're finished?

No, an adult must remain onsite at all times. Our fully serviced bar and restaurant, The Lookout, is the ideal place to relax while the children complete their activity.

Is there an instructor with you?

An instructor will administer a full safety briefing and also ensure you’re completely attached to the course before you set off. Instructors are then positioned around the course from the ground.

Are group bookings for High Rope Adventure available?

Yes, we offer group bookings for parties, corporate events and team-building activities. Please contact us for further information.

What is the cancellation policy for High Rope Adventure?

Cancellations made at least 7 days before the event date will receive a full refund.

When is High Ropes Adventure open?

We operate different opening hours depending on the season, so it's best to give us a call or search our online booking system which shows all of our availability.

What are the height and weight requirements for High Ropes Adventure?

Is previous experience necessary to participate in High Ropes Adventure?

No previous experience is required. Our trained instructors will provide safety briefings and guide you through the course, ensuring your safety and enjoyment.

When should I arrive for High Ropes Adventure?

Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled session to allow time for check-in and the safety briefing.

I have physical, sensory or mental impairment. Can I participate in High Ropes Adventure?

We try our best to make activities accessible to as many people as possible, and to avoid disappointment, it is very important you get in touch with us before you make a booking or visit to discuss any special needs you or members of your party may have. With sufficient notice, we will do our best to make amendments to our standard operating procedures and staffing levels to be able to accommodate participants with special needs. What is the minimum age requirement for High Ropes Adventure?

The minimum age requirement for High Ropes is 8 years old.

Can I bring and use a camera on High Ropes Adventure?

We do not allow cameras on the high ropes, however, if you are spectating, there are various viewing areas to take photos from.

Elevate Ski Course

What physical fitness level is required for Elevate?

You do need to be of a reasonable fitness level to attend a course. If you are worried about your fitness level, you could look at private tuition as an alternative.

What's the maximum group size for an Elevate course and what is the instructor-to-student ratio?

There are a maximum of 10 students in every course. We require a minimum of 3 students in order for the course to run. The ratio of instructor to students is 1:10.

I have tried skiing before. Can I join an Elevate course?

No, this course is for absolute beginners. If you have any skiing experience, please choose a different course or private lessons.

What skill level is the Elevate course designed for?

Level 1 courses are aimed at those who have never skied before. Only absolute beginners should book a Level 1 course. Level 2 courses are aimed at those who have taken part in a Level 1 course or have had a minimum of 2 hours private tuition.

What terrain or slopes will the Elevate course cover?

The level 1 and 2 courses will take place on our training slopes. After completing a level 2 course, we would expect you to be able to ski recreationally on our main slope.

Is there any pre-course preparation I should do prior to my Elevate course?

We would recommend that you purchase some ski gloves and ski socks and bring those with you on the day. If you do not regularly exercise, although not essential, it may benefit you to do some strength training, cardiovascular exercises and some core exercises, prior to your course.

How long is the Elevate course?

The course is 3 hours long. You will have to arrive 20 minutes before the start of the course to collect your equipment.

Junior Ski Club

What should I do if Junior Ski Club memberships are sold out on the website?

If memberships are sold out on the website, we recommend contacting us directly. Spaces may become available as children move up groups.

Who will be instructing the children during Junior Ski Club?

Junior Ski Club sessions are led by our experienced and certified ski instructors who provide a safe and fun environment for skill development.

What if I need to cancel my Junior Ski Club membership?

In extenuating circumstances, we can process a refund for your membership and calculate it pro-rata.

What is the ratio of instructors to children?

The ratio of instructors to children is 1:12.

Is there a progression system for different skill levels for Junior Ski Club?

Yes, we have a structured progression system where children move up groups as they develop their skiing skills. This ensures that each child is learning at an appropriate pace.

What are the term dates for Junior Ski Club?

Term 1 - 14th September 2024 - 14th December 2024. Term 2 - 11th January 2025 - 29th March 2025. Please note, there will be no sessions on certain dates due to horse racing at Sandown Racecourse.

What time is Junior Ski Club?

Levels 1-4 are held on Saturday mornings from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM during the term. Level 5 is held on Saturday mornings from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Level 6 takes place on Sunday mornings from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

What is the session structure for Junior Ski Club?

Children will ski for 55 minutes, take a 10-minute snack break (snacks not included) and then ski for another 55 minutes.

What age group is Junior Ski Club designed for?

Junior Ski Club is designed for children aged 7–14, catering to both beginners and experienced skiers.

Is Junior Ski Club suitable for beginners?

Yes! Our club welcomes children of all skill levels, from those taking their first steps on the slopes to seasoned skiers looking to improve their skills.

Private Ski Lessons

What ability should I be to book a private session?

Any ability! However, please be aware that anyone sharing a private lesson must be of the same standard.

What is the policy on teaching children under the age of 4?

We prioritise the safety and wellbeing of all our learners. As such, we do not offer lessons for children under the age of 4. We reserve the right to request proof of age to ensure appropriate grouping in our private lessons.

How many people can have a private lesson together?

As long as skiers are of a similar ability, up to 6 people can share a private lesson as long as they are aged 7+. A maximum of 2 children per lesson is set for those aged 4–6.

Can I share a private skiing lesson with someone else?

Yes, although they must be of the same ability as yourself. Up to 6 people can share a private lesson as long as they are aged 7+. A maximum of 2 children per lesson is set for those aged 46, and all skiers must share a similar ability.

When can I have a private lesson?

Private lessons are available at any time except during open practice sessions.

Will I need to provide proof of my child's age?

Yes, we reserve the right to request proof of age to ensure appropriate grouping in our private lessons.

Do you offer private lessons for children aged 4–6 years?

Our private lessons for 4–6 year olds will differ slightly to those we offer for those 7 and over. Although still an hour long, to prevent the 4–6 year old from becoming tired, we will slow the lesson down and run the lesson at a pace which is comfortable for them. We recommend that a maximum of 2 children of this age range are booked on a lesson together.

How long is a private skiing lesson?

Skiing lessons are 55 minutes long. 

Ski General

Are the ski slopes floodlit?

Yes, our ski slopes are fully floodlit. We also have outdoor lighting around all buildings and pathways, meaning we can stay open until late evening.

Where can I park?

We have free parking onsite.

How many slopes do you have?

Our facility has four skiing slopes, each equipped with two drag lifts (button lifts). There are two beginner-friendly nursery slopes, measuring 30m and 50m length. Additionally, we offer a primary slope spanning 140m and a slalom race slope that extends 65m, seamlessly connecting with the main slope.

What qualifications do the instructors have?

The instructors are all a minimum of BASI level 1 (or equivalent) trained. Advanced level skiing is taught by a Level 2 instructor or above.

Are lift tickets included in the course or session fee?

Yes, you do not have to pay extra for use of the lifts.

I have a disability. Can I ski?

Please note that we try our best to make activities accessible to as many people as possible. What is your helmet policy?

Anyone under 15 years of age for all activities, or anyone participating in racing must wear a helmet on the slopes at all times.

What safety measures are in place?

Helmets are not a legal requirement, however, we do provide them and recommend that you wear them. All ski instructors are fully qualified, and we carry out DBS checks. All ski instructors are First Aid trained.

What is the cancellation or refund policy for ski courses?

There is a two-week cancellation policy for all of our ski courses and lessons to receive a full refund. After this time we may be able to reschedule or refund you but only if the slot can be resold. If we need to cancel due to extreme weather conditions, we will provide a full refund or transfer your course to another date.

What equipment do I need and is it provided?

Boots, skis and helmets are provided by us, and this is included in the cost of the course/session. You will need to wear comfortable outdoor clothing, long socks and bring some gloves with you. We are an outdoor centre, so please bring waterproof clothing if it is raining. Should you have your own ski equipment, you are welcome to bring it with you.

What should I wear for my skiing activity?

Please ensure all participants wear suitable clothing: trousers, long-sleeved tops and gloves are required. We also recommend ski socks. This remains the same in hot weather and we do not have spare clothing onsite.

What happens in case of bad weather?

Activities will continue as normal in bad weather, but we may close in extreme conditions like lightning. We recommend calling ahead if you're unsure about weather-related closures.

Trailblazers Ski Course

What time does Trailblazers run?

Trailblazers courses run on set dates and times spanning across the ski season. The dates and times can be found by clicking the 'book now' button on our booking page.

How many people will be in my group for Trailblazers and what's the instructor to child ratio?

Children are split into 2 groups: Juniors (aged 7–12) and Seniors (aged 11–15). A minimum of three children is required to run the course. There is a maximum of 8 children in the Junior group and 10 in the Senior group. In the rare event a course minimum is not met, transfers to another course or a full refund will be offered. The instructor to child ratio is 1:10.

When do you run Trailblazer courses?

Trailblazers courses run on set dates and times spanning across the ski season. The dates and times can be found by clicking the 'book now' button on our booking page.

Are lunch, snacks and water included in a Trailblazers session?

No, lunch is not provided as each session is 3 hours. The children will get a 10–15 minute snack and drink break half way through the session. The drinks and snacks are not provided so please bring these with you, or you can purchase them at the Adventure Hut. Please remember, no nuts or shellfish in the lunch boxes, and please let us know if your child has any allergies.

Are there physical requirements to participate in Trailblazers?

The course is 3 hours long with a small break, therefore, a good level of general fitness will be required.

What will I do on my Trailblazers course?

These courses will cover the following skills: walking – turning on the flat – straight running – snowplough – snowplough turn. We also aim to use the button lift.

What is a Trailblazers course and what age is it suitable for?

A Trailblazers course is a 3-hour skiing course. The courses are run in separate age groups — 7–2 years and 11–15 years.
